Ai Group is proud to continue helping First Nations individuals forge fulfilling careers.
The Ai Group Apprentice and Trainee Centre (Ai Group ATC) recently employed First Nations men John, 19, and Jonas, 25, (pictured) as apprentices, hosted to Aggreko Australia in Darwin.
The pair secured their roles following a national recruitment drive for Aggreko.
John has started an Electrical Apprenticeship, while Jonas has embarked on a Heavy Vehicle (Mobile Plant) Apprenticeship.
Ai Group ATC National Account Manager Bec Tindal said the pair shone among the many applicants.
“They were also known to the business, so having that connection already established was fantastic,” she said.
Ms Tindal said John and Jonas had landed on their feet to have been placed with Aggreko, an international company actively committed to boosting the number of First Nations apprentices and trainees, along with other priority groups, including females.
“Once they get a year under their belt, they'll probably get the opportunity to do some remote work out at some mining sites which would be great exposure,” she said.
“They’ve got an exciting career opportunity at Aggreko, not only in Australia but around the world.”
Like all Ai Group apprentices and trainees, John and Jonas will receive strong support from the Ai Group ATC, with regular visits from their employment training consultant, appropriate PPE and training including health and wellbeing workshops.
Ai Group ATC currently employs 27 apprentices and trainees who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
These employees also receive cultural leave, which acknowledges the cultural obligations specifically for First Nations peoples, including but not limited to ceremonial duties and cultural events.
Ms Tindal praised Aggreko Australia for its action in giving First Nations individuals exciting career paths and support.
“It's not just a box-ticking exercise for Aggreko,” she said.
“They have really good intentions behind their actions.”
