The Australian Industry Group has described the Victorian Government's economic framework as a positive step for business and one which will give Victorian businesses a much needed boost.

Victorian Head of the Australian Industry Group, Timothy Piper, said the steps planned by the Government are a good start toward developing a new and more positive business culture in Victoria.

"The Government has obviously listened to many of our concerns. Industry needs support in specific sectors such as the availability of gas, the cost and ease of regulation and planning processes, the need to encourage a willingness to take risks and providing more development sites close to Melbourne and these matters are being addressed," Mr Piper said.

"We were also pleased to see potential changes to energy policy generally, including making waste to energy proposals more likely to be accepted and considering both gas renewables and gas terminals in the state; these are matters we have been encouraging the Government to give thought to.

"But as we know, this can only be the start to encouraging business. There must be a positive momentum where business feels supported by Government which 'must have industry's back'.

Mr Piper said that as the highest taxed state in the country, the Government must also listen to business and act on reducing taxes to support industry and develop confidence.

"Industry wants to work with Government. It's a no brainer that a partnership approach which encourages innovation and investment will be good for the economy and therefore good for business and workers," Mr Piper said.
