This Advice provides important information about Safety and Workers’ Compensation issues relevant to Members including:

• Mandatory audiometric testing for workplaces with noise levels in excess of the exposure standard. This Advice covers:
  • new requirements in NSW that become effective on 1 January 2024
  • the commencement of the WA regulation from 31 March 2024; and
  • the status in other jurisdictions.
• Outcomes of the Work Health and Safety Ministers’ Meeting on 28 February 2023, covering the topics of: silicosis; industrial manslaughter; psychosocial risks; National WHS Strategy 2023-2033; and implementation of recommendations of the 2018 Review of the Model WHS Laws.
• Safe Work Australia has commenced consultation on the WHS Ministers’ decisions related to engineered stone. Public comment will close at 11.59pm on 2 April 2023.
• Western Australia: Workers Compensation and Injury Management Bill tabled in Parliament, with some changes from the 2021 consultation draft.
• Publication of the Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2023-33.
