On 20 November 2024, the Government introduced the Workplace Gender Equality Amendment (Setting Gender Equality Targets) Bill 2024 to Parliament.
The Bill seeks to introduce gender equality targets for relevant employers with 500 or more employees to commit to, achieve and report to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency against three of the six gender equality indicators.
If employers fail to meet or demonstrate improvement against the targets this may impact their eligibility to contract with the Australian Government through its procurement processes.
The Bill has been referred to the Senate Finance and Public Administration Legislation Committee for inquiry and report.
