A striking artwork included in an outdoor sculpture festival has revealed the creative side of a family-owned and operated steel manufacturer on the Gold Coast.

Neumann Steel’s sculpture of a large hand, titled Resilient Earth, was spotted by Ai Group Member Engagement Manager Darren Harrison on Currumbin Beach during the 10-day annual SWELL Sculpture Festival.

Crafted from scrap steel, plastic void formers made from recycled polypropylene and a net of plastic materials, the impressive piece represents industrial strength and the company’s commitment to innovative, eco-friendly practices.

Its description says: “Through artistry and design, we strive to provoke thought and inspire action, reminding all who encounter it [Resilient Earth] of our collective responsibility to protect and preserve our environment.”

The sculpture was created by Neumann Steel artists Campbell Sneddon, Matthew Johnson, Trent Davis and Adam Brown.

Company spokesperson Dana Radburn said: “We are incredibly proud of our team, who spent much time collaborating across various departments to bring this project to life.

“Their exceptional skills and creativity transformed raw materials into a stunning work of art.”

Neumann Group, which uses sustainable, recycled steel in its reinforcing products and solutions, is also a major sponsor of the SWELL Festival, now in its 22nd year.

More than 60 sculptures set among the natural landscape were on display this year, illuminated at night for maximum effect and visibility.

“Our sponsorship and participation reflect our commitment to supporting the arts and contributing to cultural and community events,” Ms Radburn said.

“It’s an opportunity to highlight our team’s creativity and our commitment to making a positive impact in the community.”

Resilient Earth is for sale for $20,000, with proceeds going back to the community via the Neumann Benevolent Foundation.

Neumann Steel has been a member of Ai Group since 2022.
