On 8 January 2025, Ai Group filed a submission in response to advice issued by the Road Transport Advisory Group (RTAG) in relation to five applications before the Fair Work Commission (FWC), including three applications for minimum standards orders and an application for a road transport contractual chain order filed by the Transport Workers’ Union of Australia.
The RTAG was established by amendments made to the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) by the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes (No 2)) Act 2024 (Cth). Its role is to advise the FWC in relation to certain matters relating to the road transport industry.
This is the first time the FWC has sought advice from the RTAG since it was established. The RTAG’s advice covers various matters, including how the FWC should prioritise each application and how the RTAG will conduct itself in advising the FWC about the applications.
