It is integral that leaders remain connected to a new employee after they sign their contract. Due to notice periods, it can be weeks (or sometimes months for senior positions) before a new hire starts in their position.

Approximately a week prior to the start date, it is recommended that the hiring manager sends a ‘welcome aboard’ email and then it is best practice to ring the new employee a couple of days prior to answer any last-minute questions and provide a positive experience close to the starting date. The Sample: Script for Manager to Call New Employee Prior to Day One is a recommended guideline for leaders on how to approach the phone call.

This is a sample script and can be tailored to meet the unique needs of the organisation.
