Cyber capability is an essential requirement for business, and awareness of cyber issues is well developed in industry. Even so, there is a wide range of digital maturity across different subsectors in Australian industry. While cyber capability already has traction in Australian industry, there is considerable room for growth.

The Australian Government recently launched industry consultations for a 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy. To support and inform the development of this strategy, our Research & Economics team has evaluated the current cyber and digital practices of Australian industry utilising data from Ai Group’s futuremap® platform.

Ai Group’s futuremap® is a business diagnostic designed to assist manufacturers and related industries to adopt Industry 4.0 practices. Since its launch in 2018 by the Innovative Manufacturing Cooperative Research Centre (imcrc), nearly 1200 Australian businesses have completed the futuremap® tool.

The data interactive below explores levels of cyber security readiness in Australian industry. How effective are industry cyber practices and technologies? Which subsectors lead the pack? What are the workforce’s digital skills today, and where are the cyber gaps that need filling?
