Implementing trauma informed practices within the workplace to reduce the risk of trauma

Course Overview

This introductory short course is designed to equip Leaders, HR and WHS professionals to use a trauma-informed lens in their work practice. The session will improve participants' knowledge, understanding, and response to trauma.  The session will explore how to recognise signs of trauma, avoid practices that may re-traumatise individuals, and enhance the skills related to interacting with those who have experienced trauma.

Trauma informed practice is essential for those in business who actively want to enhance psychological safety, foster empathy, and create an inclusive workplace.  Whether participants undertake incident investigations into poor workplace behaviour (i.e., sexual harassment, bullying), or facilitating training and conducting psychosocial hazard risk assessments, a trauma informed practice is essential to ensure people and teams are not negatively impacted.

Contents:

  • Realise and recognise the impact of trauma
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of trauma
  • Respond by integrating trauma informed care into practice
  • Identify the key skills and practices needed to apply a trauma lens when working with people
  • Understand how to apply the six trauma informed principles to the workplace to provide psychological safety
  • Prevent re-traumatisation

Note:  This training is not about treating trauma or its symptoms but recognising that trauma experiences can affect anyone.
